SALENTO

Set amid gorgeous green montains 24 km east of Armenia, this small town survives on coffee production, trout farming and, increasingly, tourists, who are drawn by its quaint street, typical paisa (antioqueña) architecture, and proximity to the spectacular Valle de Cocora. It was founded in 1850, and is one of the oldest (and possibly the smallest) town in Quindío.

FILANDIAFilandia is probably the place where the basis of the Antioquian colonization has been better preserved. Its carved wooden balconies are famous and its Maria Inmaculada Church is known because it was first constructed in bahareque (small wood covered by earth) and leter covered with metal sheeting.
In 1988 a keen, demanding jury declared Filandia the prettiest town in the department of Quindío. By all means, visitors should go to the Filandia observation tower to see municipalities in four departments: Valle, Quindío, Risaralda, and Caldas.

Los Nevados National Park: Glacial activity has shaped this 9,800 fts landscape. Also due to these high altitudes one can enjoy snow throughout the entire year at Los Nevadoss National Park. Los Nevados boasts of volcanoes and volcanic rock landscapes and unique flora and fauna in the world ¨they have been designated ecological sanctuaries for its rich biodiversity¨. In addition, Los Nevados are major producers of pure and crystalline waters supplying water to the more than 2,000,000 coffee growers in the area.

COCORA VALLEY: This intriguing and magnificent valley is made up of unique wax palms that can only be seen if the ¨fog forests¨ don´t make an appearance. This area is home to the Wax Palm Colombia´s  national symbol, This palm is considered the highest palm in the world managing to reach up to 60 meteres high. 

OTUN LAKE NATIONAL PARK: The lake Otún offers a wonderful body of water surrounded by waterfalls, lush vegetation forests, multicolored birds, butterflies, exotic flowers, rivers and colorful nature reserves that lend themselves to interesting and adventurous walks.

The production and aromas of the coffee, in addition to the unique and representative landscapes of the region have made this a popular tourist destination

In 2011, UNESCO declared the Colombia coffee region World Heritage Site, due to preservation of this coffee traditions, its impressive landscapes and the Spanish colonial architecture prevaling in the haciendas and municipalities in the Departments of Risaralda, Caldas and Quindio.
